I never thought that my affinity for Netflix would lead me to the great passion of my life. As a freshman in high school, I binged the offset flavor of Orange is the New Black on a snow day in Minnesota. The bear witness moved me, and I began to read everything I could get my hands on nigh incarceration in the Us. When my family returned to Mexico City, I realized I didn't know the landscape of incarceration at that place and I needed to find out. So I picked up a photographic camera and taught myself how to shoot and edit film. I interviewed the women in Spanish and translated their stories into English so their stories would be accessible to a broad audience.

As a writer of poetry, I was immediately drawn to the opportunity of Freewrite Prison Writing Group through the Kelly Writers' Firm, working with incarcerated women and trans people. I'd like to continue my documentary filmmaking work with those I meet in this program, to exist able to both assist them tell their stories and assist the world to know them.
